Thursday, May 22, 2008

Hundreds of students at an Atlanta-area middle school have been evacuated because of a gas leak.

There are no reports of injuries.

DeKalb County schools spokesman Dale Davis says 800 to 900 students at McNair Middle School are being transported to a nearby high school until the end of the school day.

Davis says a gassy odor was detected shortly after noon. The students were told to leave the building. Fire officials were called in and determined that there was a leak, but it's not yet clear how it happened.

The school is in Decatur, which is just east of Atlanta.
